Erik Schmidt

Erik is a Data Engineer in the VISTA Data Visualization Laboratory. In addition to supporting VISTA Lab users, Erik focuses on improving domain experts’ ability to explore large and complex data through the development and application of interactive data visualization and analysis systems.

Geographic visualization has been Erik’s passion since high school. He studied at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville where he received a B.A. and M.S. in Geography. Prior to his time in CSMD, he worked in the Geographic Information Science and Technology (GIST) and Human Dynamics (HD) groups where he focused on GIS, data wrangling, and data curation.
