SciDAC HBPS: High-fidelity Boundary Plasma Simulation

Project Status: Active

The Scientific Discovery through Advanced Computing (SciDAC) High-Fidelity Boundary Plasma Simulation (HBPS) is putting a strong emphasis on experimental validation, and use of data-science technologies. Our goal is to facilitate scientific knowledge discovery for validating first principle codes with experimental superconducting fusion reactors. We will develop and apply modern data science technology in the collaborative research between HBPS and Korea Superconducting Tokamak Advanced Research (KSTAR), to facilitate this goal. In this project, we will both “federate” the data, i.e., build data flows to orchestrate collaborative analyses to multiple facilities, enabling faster and deeper scientific discoveries, and to provide feedback to a running experiment, which can utilize modern data science technologies including machine learning (ML), artificial intelligence (AI), and neutral network.
