Dr. Prasanna Date, a Research Scientist in the Beyond Moore Computing group won the Your Science in a Nutshell (YSiaN) 2021 competition at ORNL.
Pras' lightening talk was titled "Advancing Science using Quantum Machine Learning." He talked about why it is important to use quantum computing for training machine learning models and how this quantum machine learning approach could aid in scientific discovery in the future. This talk was based on his research paper published in Nature Scientific Reports titled, "QUBO Formulations for Training Machine Learning Models."
Your Science in a Nutshell is an annual competition that challenges early-career and postdoctoral researchers to hone their Lightning Talk and gives them the opportunity to take science communication training and work one-on-one with a mentor. Competitors are allowed one PowerPoint slide for their Lightning Talk but no other props. The competition is hosted by the Office of Research Excellence, the Communications Division, and Employee and Organizational Development.
