Abstract: Topological data analysis can be applied to study the large-scale and meso-scale structure of complex networks. By constructing a simplicial complex from a network, topological invariants such as homology can be efficiently extracted. Given a weighted network, these techniques can analyze the features of the network at all resolutions simultaneously, differentiating short-lived features from persistent features. We show how the results of topological data analysis can be interpreted for a collaboration network of scientists in the field of peridynamics.
Biography: Biraj Dahal is a rising senior at Clemson University, studying Mathematics and Computer Science. His research interests include complex network analysis, functional analysis, and probabilistic data analysis. After undergrad, he will be seeking a Ph.D.
