Research and development of new capabilities in the Scientific Data group to help tame the tsunami of scientific data

Dr. Scott Klasky
Dr. Scott Klasky

Abstract: In this presentation, Dr. Scott A. Klasky will talk about the new set of applications and experiments which push the edge of scientific data processing and simulation. He will present some of the exciting new research in this area to cope with this tsunami of data, along with the challenges in implementing these effectively on next-generation computer architectures. In his presentation he will focus on research and methods for the management, movement, storage and processing of large data and measured impacts on scientific workflows.

Bio: Dr. Klasky has over 30 years of experience in designing and creating middleware, visualization, mathematical algorithms, and numerical simulations for high performance- data intensive computing.  Dr. Klasky leads many large DOE efforts and serves as the technical lead and coordinator for many major DOE projects. Dr. Klasky is one of the world’s leaders in Research into Data Intensive Science, and is the lead of the ADIOS project, used by many of the largest data producers in the world. Dr. Klasky efforts are to focus on creating new research and software technologies which combine the use of a Service Oriented Arthictures for High End Computing with advanced self-describing data streaming techniques which can efficiently  place, move, reduce, analyze and visualize voluminous data to gain knowledge.
