Project

Development of Tools for Evaluating the National Toxicology Program's Effectiveness

Project Status: Active

The purpose of this project is to further the research and development of tools that NIEHS can use in its research evaluations of the National Toxicology Program’s (NTP’s) effectiveness.   This effort consists of the following objectives:

•    Research and develop software for NIEHS to use in bibliometric evaluation of NTP’s effectiveness. This research demonstration should be able to (1) find and retrieve documents from on-line databases that cite NTP’s publications and (2) tag and categorize information within the documents, and output the tagged and categorized information in a data format that can be analyzed and graphed (e.g., text files or files with comma separated value formatting).

•    Examine the feasibility of researching and developing a web-mining tool(s) to (1) find and retrieve documents that cite NTP publications from other agencies and groups in the 50 U.S. states, U.S. federal agencies, U.S. nongovernmental groups, and the international community and (2) tag and categorize information within the documents, and output the tagged and categorized information in a data format that can be analyzed and graphed (e.g., comma separated value formatting, text files).  If determined to be feasible, move forward with development of this capability.
