Vetter named top scientist at Awards Night

Dr. Jeffrey Vetter
Jeffrey S. Vetter received the Director's Award for Outstanding Individual Accomplishment in Science and Technology at Saturday's Awards Night.

The Computer Science & Mathematics Division's Jeffrey S. Vetter received the ORNL Director's Award for Outstanding Individual Accomplishment in Science and Technology at Saturday night's Awards Night. The top scientist award was presented by Lab Director Thomas Zacharia.

Jeff was honored with the Lab's top science and technology award "for advancing innovative, transformative architectures and software for high-performance computing. His efforts have been integral in the development of extreme-scale, energy-efficient, productive high-performance computing systems for many important DOE applications, resulting in positive impacts on the most powerful computing systems in the world."

He leads the Future Technologies group and holds a joint appointment at the University of Tennessee. Jeffrey is a fellow of IEEE and distinguished scientist member of the Association for Computing Machinery. In 2010 he was part of a team that won the prestigious Gordon Bell Prize in high-performance computing.
