Ron Lee is a Senior R&D Staff member in the Data Systems Sciences and Engineering group working as software architecture and developer. Since 1989 he has been a principal developer and team leader on a variety of projects ranging from functional prototypes to 24x7 operational deployments supporting defense intelligence, planning, and decision support, consequence assessment and hazard prediction, data visualization, real-time data acquisition, dissemination, and situation displays. Currently he supports the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA), the Consortium for Advanced Simulation of Light Water Reactors (CASL), and the National Technical Nuclear Forensics (NTNF) program. He develops and maintains the Nuclear Facility Accident (NFAC) model and PopLib libraries for DTRA, the VERAView (https://github.com/CASL/VERAView) and VeraRun (https://github.com/CASL/VERARun) applications for CASL, and the Fallout Planning Tool for NTNF.
Lee earned an M.S. in Computer Systems (distinguished graduate) from the Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) in 1986 after receiving a B.S. in Information and Computer Science (highest honor) from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1985. After grad school he was an intelligence system software analyst at Offutt AFB, Nebraska until separation from the Air Force in 1989. After a brief stint working for Sterling Systems in Bellevue, Nebraska he joined Martin Marietta Energy Systems' Data System Research and Development (DSRD) division in Oak Ridge. In 1994 he moved to ORNL's Computational Physics and Engineering Division and has survived several subsequent organizational changes as a member of groups such as Bioinformatics, Reactor Physics, Computational Data Analytics, Geographic Information Science & Technology before joining Data Systems Sciences and Engineering. He is a Sun Certified Java Developer and has taught Unix and software development classes at Pellissippi State Community College.
